Colorado Springs fire authorities say the unnamed man received facial burns Thursday night after using an aerosol cleaner on the lit fireplace. Fire Lt. Tom Ruane tells The (Colorado Springs) Gazette that the aerosol cleaner produced “a big fireball.”

Three other people inside the house weren’t injured.

Ruane says fireplace accidents are common, and that people trying to clean their own fireplaces should make certain the fireplaces are cool to the touch first. Aerosol cleaners shouldn’t be used.

SCRIPPS RANCH — Firefighters battled bees Saturday while extinguishing a chimney fire in a house at Scripps Ranch, authorities said.

A resident in the 9700 block of Camino Suelto lit a fire in his chimney just before 11:20 a.m. to smoke out bees that were building a hive inside, and the smoke quickly got out of control, said a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher.

While a dispatcher initially said the house had also caught fire, when firefighters arrived they found the fire was contained to the chimney.

No firefighters were stung by the bees, the dispatcher said.
